Good Times Tattoo Studio
Though Good Times Tattoo isn’t located in downtown Austin, it’s a studio you have to consider in the area. It’s located in nearby Round Rock which is only about a 15 minute drive from Austin.
Good Times opened in 2016. They didn’t waste any time setting the bar high for tattoos in the area. In fact, they’ve claimed the “Best Tattoo Shop” award in Round Rock every year, including the year they opened! If that’s not enough, at the time of this article, they have almost 100 Google reviews and boast an impressive 4.8 rating.
Currently there are 4 artists on staff (Johnny, Cody, Aaron and Matthew) at the studio that can do your next piece. The great thing about their website, is that you can see each of their portfolios to get an idea of which artist would be best suited for you.
The vibe inside the shop is extremely unique, especially if you like history and nostalgia. Everything from the artwork, to the old wooden desks the guys work on to the building itself. The building that the studio operates out of was built way back in 1871. While you are getting your tattoo, be sure to ask your artist if they’ve had any ghost encounters while working there (they have!!). Their stories will help you pass the time for sure.

Moon Tattoo Studio
Moon Tattoo Studios is a small female owned shop that opened in 2016 and is located just north of downtown Austin. The studio specializes in the blackwork style tattoos, but can do a wide range of other designs as well. You can see a sampling of all their work by checking out their Instagram page (click here).
They are able to do a wide range of designs because of the number of artists they have on staff and the fact they rotate special artists in from time to time as well. Currently, the studio has 8 artists on staff. You can go to their website (linked below) and check out the portfolio of each artist.
The nice think about Moon’s studio is that they put an emphasis on it being quiet and inviting. The studio is filled with natural light, and the artists are described as being “quiet, gentle and calm” so that every customer can enjoy their session and be as relaxed as possible.
If you take a look at their Google reviews, you will find endless comments of people raving out the work that all of the artist do, along with the inviting atmosphere that Tina (the studio owner) has created. At the time of this article, the studio had almost 150 reviews and an incredible 4.9 rating.

Mom’s Tattoo Studio
Mom’s Tattoo is a family owned shop that has been in business for more than 22 years. The is located just outside the south side downtown Austin.
Mom’s has built their business based solely on word of mouth referrals. In order to do that, you have to perform excellent work day in and day out, and this studio has done that for over 2 decades. Mom’s studio should be a consideration for any tattoo design you have in mind. However, I think they are great for someone looking to get their first tattoo. They great a very relaxing and calm atmosphere for their customers and that’s very important if when you get your first tattoo because of the anxiety most people experience.
If you read thru their Google reviews (more than 150 reviews with a 4.8 rating) you will see numerous comments from people who specifically mention getting their first tattoo here and how incredible the experience was.
