Once you get a new tattoo, it’s important to protect it to ensure it doesn’t get infected and it heals as expected. Most tattoo artists will tell you to use a product like Aquapor during the first week after getting your new ink.
Once you get past the first week or so of healing, you are going to find the skin on and around your tattoo will get very itchy as it continues to heal. At this time, it’s important to apply a moisturizer to your tattoo to help keep it protected and to help relive the itching. Some artists may recommend 
applying a moisturizer as soon as a couple days after getting the work done. Just make sure you discuss with your artist before leaving the studio or call them if you have any questions.
I prefer all natural products when possible and Ora’s Amazing Herbal Tattoo Salve (Amazon link) is what I always use as my moisturizer. I like it so much that I prefer it over normal lotion in the winter time when my arms and hands get dry. It’s nice because it doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily after applying.
